To Rebel Is Justified, From Lu Xun. China’s Greatest Modern Writer.

‘To rebel is justified” or “Eating people is wrong.”  The way is not clear; the dilemma is still there; but who can look at China’s century of civil strife and wish for more? Who would not say ‘amen’ to the prayer (in the ancient Greek play,
The Eumenides, by Aeschylus):
‘I pray that civil strife,
Which knows no end of evil,
Shall never [again] roar within this city.
And may the dust
That drinks the black blood of its people
Wreak not havoc on the state,
In rage demanding recompense,
Life for life.’”
